New Pro-Mangano literature lists these "facts":
Tom Suozzi raised taxes 23% while he was in office. Ed Mangano passed four consecutive no tax-increase budgets.
Tom Suozzi tried to impose another 16% tax increase in residents. Ed Mangano stopped it.
Tom Suozzi taxed residents’ heat and electricity. Ed Mangano repealed the energy tax immediately after taking office.
Tom Suozzi gave himself a $65,200 pay raise, or a 60% increase. Ed Mangano turned down pay hikes 4 years in a row.
In fact, in 2003, just one year into office, as Nassau County struggled to “stave off crushing deficits,” Suozzi reportedly gave 25% raises to several top political appointees. One, former County Economic Czar Peter Sylver, received a $14,000 raise. Two years later, Sylver resigned his post and pled guilty to misspending hundreds of thousands in federal funds and sexually assaulting a female employee. Then, in 2006 – just prior to instituting a hiring freeze as a result of poor County finances – Suozzi awarded $1.5 million in raises to nearly 200 political appointees.
Suozzi also gave lucrative raises to staffers who donated to his campaign. Then Assessor Harvey Levinson contributed $2,200 to Suozzi’s campaign and got a $66,300 raise in 2007. Howard Weitzman donated $1,825 To Democratic state and local party committees and received a $57,630 raise in 2007. Marilyn Gottlieb contributed $8,100 to Suozzi’s campaigns for governor and county executive and got a $23,000 raise in 2006.
