Entire Forum With the recent events of Irene and Super Storm Sandy, much attention and economic aid has become available to address long-standing environmental issues that we have been facing within our vulnerable shorelines and South Shore estuaries. A vital part of our future resiliency relies on the health of our bays and wetlands, and a major part of that health depends on the quality of water that our regional tributaries contribute to these waterways. As SPLASH has adopted a major role of education on storm water, it is most appropriate that as a sponsor of this meeting, our friends and fellow stakeholders - who play important roles in promoting a healthy environment.
We would also like to take this opportunity to interest prospective investors and collaborators – public and private – to help fund the revitalization and construction of a Long Island Maritime Educational Center at the SPLASH building. Renovations, renderings and plans will be unveiled publicly at this event. Capital investment funding is needed to accomplish our goals and move our already successful programs forward to become ever more encompassing. We are looking forward to future collaborations and representations from EPA, NY DEC, USGS, LI Aquarium and the Riverhead Foundation - just to name a few. Continued affiliations with local universities like Adelphi, Hofstra and Stony Brook University would be further enriched by this unique South Shore location on the Nautical Mile. Firefighters were searching about 5 p.m. for the source of the fire that prompted officials at the Momentum at South Bay for Rehabilitation and Nursing at 340 East Main St. to evacuate the second floor.
Shortly before 6 p.m., an employee of the home who would not identify herself came out and said, "No comment, we're trying to get all the residents settled." -- Ted Phillips |
